Sustainable Practices for Faith Buildings
IBetter Buildings Ottawa will be offering an exciting workshop opportunity for Energy Benchmarking Program participants on March 19th from 9am to 4pm at Trinity Anglican Church! This will be a fantastic opportunity for faith building owners and operators to learn more about easy ways that they can make their faith building more energy efficient!
This will be a full day workshop spent learning about energy efficiency, what it means, how it can apply to faith buildings, and what can be done to improve buildings’ efficiency. We will also be participating in an ‘energy treasure hunt’, looking for areas of improvement and finding low and no cost improvements to the facility. There will also be FREE LUNCH provided by a local caterer! The workshops will be facilitated by two brilliant engineers, Michel Parent and Stephen Dixon, who each bring over 30 years of experience in the building industry.
Faithfully Green Fund Info Session
Have you and your congregation been looking to make your faith building more sustainable? Have you been considering installing solar panels or EV chargers? Replacing your old HVACS or upgrading your roof? Are you just lacking some of the upfront capital? Well, I have some good news for you! The Faithfully Green Fund is looking to finance some sustainable energy retrofits in your faith communities! The FGF is offering loans starting at $10 000, going up to $250 000 with a fixed interest rate of 5% over up to 7 years. The Faithfully Green Fund is looking for churches, mosques, synagogues, spiritual retreats centres, Indigenous spaces, and faith communities of all kinds to participate in our loan program!
Heat Pumps & Carbon Zero
Trinity United Church Ottawa will be hosting a panel discussion about their newly installed heat pumps and how we can reach net carbon zero in our homes and in our faith communities! Come by to learn all their is to know about the benefits of heat pumps and how they can reduce our carbon footprint. Be sure to save the date; October 20th! Experts from their field will be answering questions and hosting the discussion. Of course there will be snacks and refreshments! We look forward to seeing you there!
Invasive Plants vs Native Pollinator Plants
Carleton Memorial United Church is hosting a couple of events this month. On October 18th at 1pm, a member of the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority Authority will be hosting an educational walk about invasive species followed by planting some native plants!
On Sunday October 22nd at 1pm, there will be an opportunity to prepare garden beds and plant native pollinator plants!

The Spirituality Of Gardening
The Rhoda Masjid is hosting a conversation on the spirituality of gardening on October 14th in partnership with Greening Sacred Spaces and Watersheds Canada! Hamdi Ben Aissa will set the tone sharing spiritual insights on gardening and tending to the earth. He will be joined by Stephane Pressault who will share some permaculture design principles that you can apply in your own garden to steward the ecosystem.
2nd Annual Environmental Fair
The Ottawa Baha’i Centre is hosting their second annual environmental fair on September 30th from 11am to 2pm. Every visitor will receive a free native tree and free native wildflower seeds to plant! This will be a great opportunity to get some practical advice on how we can make Ottawa a more sustainable city. Join us to learn more about electric cars, solar energy, gardening, home energy efficiency, pollinators, green roofs, and more.
